Welcome, CoachGetting your team started on Mental Edge Academy
Everything you need to get your team going: how it works, how you and your athletes sign up, what your athletes experience each day, and what your dashboard shows you.
MEA is a daily mental-fitness training app for athletes, the mental equivalent of a strength program. Athletes open it every day and do short guided sessions that build 15 core mindsets, plus mental rehearsals and periodic self-assessments. You (and your Athletic Director, if you have one) get a dashboard that shows who's actually training and how your team is trending.
It's a web app, not an app-store download.Opens in any browser; athletes can "Add to Home Screen" so it behaves like a native app. Nothing to install or approve through a school.
The work is daily and short.A day is an AM session and a PM session. The 15 mindsets cycle continuously, there's no "finish the course," it's ongoing reps.
Four kinds of accounts.Athletic Director, Coach, Athlete, and now Parent. Parents can now do the exact same program independently.
It's built around you. You're the hub: you create the team, hand out the join code, and watch the roster.
02
How people get in
There's one simple chain of codes. Each level hands the next level a code. You only ever need to remember your own team code.
Athletic Director
Sets up the school, then hands out an invite code to coaches.
SCHOOL- code
→
Coach
Joins with the school code, creates a team for their sport, gets a team code.
TEAM- code
→
Athlete
Joins with the team code the coach gives them and starts training that day.
Starts training
Two important shortcuts: a coach who bought MEA on their own can skip the school entirely ("I bought this myself"), they just pick a sport and go. And an athlete without a code yet can choose "I'll join one later," start training solo, and attach to a team afterward. Parents sit outside this chain completely, see §06.

no code
Never tied to a team, coach, or report. Signs up alone, picks a sport, does the same daily program.
Keeping your roster clean: you can remove a member from your team (and an AD can remove one org-wide), the fix for duplicates or a parent who used the team code. It's a removal, not a delete (the account stays; they can re-join). Details in §07.
03
Sign-up, role by role
On the sign-up screen the first question is simply "Tell us who you are" with four buttons. Here's exactly what each path asks for.
Athletic Director Top of chain
"Set up your school and get an invite code for your coaches."
Enters school details
Receives a school invite code to distribute
Coaches then join under that school
Coach The hub
"Create your coaching account."
Picks the team's sport from the full list
Enters a school code…
…or "I don't have a school code, I bought this myself"
Athlete Trains daily
"Join your team with the code your coach gave you."
Enters the team code from their coach
…or "I don't have a team code, I'll join one later"
Starts the daily program immediately
Parent Independent
"Create your own account, you'll pick a sport once you're in."
No team code, not tied to any team
Picks a sport next
Gets the same daily sessions the athletes do
The coach's sport list (the "sport track" shapes the examples in the sessions):
Everyone signs up first (§03). After that, this is the front door you and your athletes use on every visit.
There is no password anywhere in MEA.To come back in, you type your email, tap "Send sign-in code," and the app emails you a 6-digit code. Enter the code and you're in.
First time = Sign up. Every time after = Sign in.Once an account exists, returning coaches, athletes, parents and ADs all use Sign in, not Sign up again. Signing up a second time (which makes a brand-new empty account) is the #1 self-inflicted confusion.
If the code doesn't arrive:check spam/junk, and make sure the email was typed correctly. School and district inboxes reliably receive the code (it's a plain code, not a risky link).
05
The athlete's day
Here's what your athletes actually experience after they join.
Morning
AM Session
A short guided mental-fitness session to set up the day, priming the mindset before school/practice.
Evening
PM Session
A second session to reflect and reset. AM + PM together = one complete "day" in the app.
Anytime
Mental Rehearsals
Guided visualization/rehearsal built right into the app, practicing the performance in the mind.
15 core mindsets, on a loop. The program continuously cycles the 15 mindsets (confidence, focus, resilience, and so on), so it's a habit, not a course with an end date.
It rolls over on its own. Each day's work refreshes automatically at local midnight. Nothing to reset; they just open it and today's session is waiting.
Periodic self-assessments set a baseline.Athletes rate themselves so there's a starting point to measure growth against over the season (details in §09).
How to frame it for your athletes:there's no perfect answer and no grade, it's reps. Consistency over performance. That's the message that keeps them coming back.
The three in-app coaches are interactive coaching chats, each tied to a phase. This is the "someone's in my corner" part athletes love:
Pregame · In-Season
Confidence Coach
A quick pre-competition chat to get the head right, "the Coach is in." Priming before they compete.
Post-game · In-Season
Reflection Coach
A post-competition debrief chat, process what happened and bank the lesson while it's fresh.
Off-Season
Optimization Coach
An off-season growth chat for building between seasons (opened Sept 1).
Office Hours / live group coaching.A live group-coaching session that runs about twice a week. Athletes join it from the "Office Hours / Group Coaching" tile on their dashboard (shows in every phase), and the current schedule/link lives right there in the app. Heads-up: this is on the athlete dashboard, not the coach or AD dashboard, and it's AEA-run, so a coach doesn't host it.
06
Parent accounts, the new piece
A parent can now go through the exact same program their athlete does, on their own account.
What it is
Fully independent. Not attached to a team, a coach, or a school. The parent signs up, picks a sport, and gets the same daily AM/PM sessions.
Self-serve.No code needed and nothing you have to set up, the parent just chooses "I'm a Parent" at sign-up.
What it is not
Not a window into their kid's data.It doesn't show the athlete's results, it's the parent doing the program themselves, to understand it and model it.
Invisible to reporting.Parent accounts are excluded from all coach/AD rosters and stats, so they never inflate or clutter a team's numbers.
Bringing parents in
If a parent wants to experience what their athlete is doing, and reinforce it at home, they can sign up as a Parent and do the whole program themselves. It won't touch your roster or your reports.
★ Try it yourself
The best way to learn the app is to live in it. Make a second account as a Parent, using a different email from your coaching login, and get the exact athlete experience: the same daily Morning/Evening sessions, and the phase toggle so you can flip Pre-Season → In Season → Off Season and watch the workouts change.
Parent is the cleanest route because there's no code field to fumble, so you can't accidentally land on your own roster, and the account stays invisible to all reporting. The one rule: use a separate email, since one email can only be one account.
07
The coach dashboard & what it reports on
Once a coach has a team, their dashboard is a roster view built to answer one question at a glance: who's actually doing the work?
The roster.Every athlete who joined with your team code, in one list, your home base.
Engagement / who's training.Whether athletes are showing up and completing their daily sessions, so you can nudge the ones going quiet.
Assessment & baseline results.Where athletes started and how their self-assessments trend over the season.
Grouped by season phase. The roster organizes athletes by their training phase (e.g. Pre-Season vs In-Season), which changes what the program emphasizes.
Manage roster, remove a member.A "Manage roster" card lets the coach clean up their team: remove a duplicate, a parent who used the team code, or an athlete who left. Two taps (Remove → Confirm). It's a removal, not a delete, it takes them off the roster and reports, the account stays, and they can re-join with the team code.
⚑ One thing you might notice
Your roster groups athletes by each athlete's individual phase, so a team you think of as "Pre-Season" may show some athletes under "In Season." It's just a labeling quirk, your athletes and their data are fine.
08
The Athletic Director view
If your school has an Athletic Director, here's the layer that sits above your team.
The AD sets up the schooland generates the invite code coaches use to join under it.
The AD sees across teams, a school-wide layer above the individual coach rosters, so leadership can see adoption across all their programs, not just one sport.
A coach doesn't need an AD to start. If they bought it themselves, they're fully self-sufficient. The AD layer is for whole-school rollouts.
The AD can clean up org-wide.Same remove-a-member tool as the coach, but school-wide from the Scorecard's Manage column, handy for duplicates or accounts that shouldn't be there across any team.
09
Assessments & baselines, how they sync
One thing worth knowing up front: baselines don't get lost, they lag.
Assessments live in a separate Assessment Center. The initial self-assessment isn't taken inside the daily-session flow; it comes from a companion assessment step.
Results sync into the app about once a day, matched by email. So the athlete's email in the assessment must match the email on their MEA account.
"My baseline isn't showing" is almost always timing, not loss.Give it a daily sync cycle. If it still doesn't appear, the usual culprit is a mismatched/typo'd email, check that first.
In plain terms
Baseline results flow in on a daily sync that matches on email, if they're not there yet, give it a day and make sure the email matches exactly. They're not lost.
10
Good to know
A few real-world things worth knowing as you get going.
⚑ Adding an assistant coach
Adding an assistant coach isn't self-serve yet, just email us their address and we'll add them. Once added, your assistant signs in (not sign up) and sees your exact dashboard, same roster and reports, so they can help you support the team. (See Chart B above.)
⚑ Athletes coming from the Rehearsal Room
If your athletes did pre-season work in the Rehearsal Room, that history carries into MEA only when the email matches. A typo doesn't lock an athlete out, they can still train, but their pre-season data won't carry over and their status may stick on "Preseason Complete." Matching emails is the fix.
✓ Getting the login code
Login is a plain 6-digit code, which school and district email filters pass reliably. If a code ever doesn't arrive, check spam and promotions first, and if it's still stuck, reach out and we'll help.

Quick answers
The questions coaches ask most.
"Do my athletes need to download an app?"
No. It's a web app, they open a link and can "Add to Home Screen" so it looks and feels like a native app. Nothing to install through the App Store or the school.
"How do they log in?"
Email plus a 6-digit code we email them each time. No passwords to remember or reset.
"How do athletes join my team?"
You give them your team code. They choose "I'm an Athlete," enter the code, and they're on your roster and training that day.
"What if a kid doesn't have my code yet?"
They can choose "I'll join one later," start the program solo, and attach to your team afterward.
"How much time does it take each day?"
Short sessions, an AM and a PM. It's designed for consistency, not a big time commitment.
"Where do people sign up?"
mea-mental-fitness.aea-neuro-fitness-academy.com/signup → pick your role. Coaches enter the school code; athletes enter the coach's team code. (Link is in the header.)
"Is there a printable start guide I can hand my athletes?"
Yes, the Player Start Guide builder. Enter your school, sport, team code, and start date, choose the starting phase, and print a 3-page guide (login steps + a dated schedule) for your players. Open the builder →
"What are the 'three coaches' in the app?"
Three interactive coaching chats, by phase: Confidence Coach (pregame), Reflection Coach (post-game), and Optimization Coach (off-season). Athletes tap in whenever they want that kind of support.
"What's Office Hours, do I run it?"
No, Office Hours / Group Coaching is AEA-run live group coaching, about twice a week. Athletes join from the tile on their own dashboard (the current schedule/link is in the app). It's not on your coach dashboard, and you don't host it.
"Can parents use it?"
Yes, a parent can sign up as a Parent and do the same program independently. It won't touch your roster or your reports.
"Can I go through the program myself, like my athletes do?"
Yes, make a second account as a Parent with a different email from your coaching login. You'll see the exact athlete experience and can toggle Pre-Season / In Season / Off Season to see how the workouts change. It stays off your roster and out of your reports.
"What do I actually see as the coach?"
Your roster, who's training and completing sessions, and each athlete's assessment/baseline trend, organized by season phase.
"There's a duplicate / someone who shouldn't be on my roster, can I remove them?"
Yes. On your dashboard, open Manage roster and tap Remove next to them (a second tap confirms). It clears them from your roster and reports right away. It's a removal, not a delete, their account stays and they can re-join with your team code. ADs can do the same across the whole school from the Scorecard.
"Can I add my assistant coach?"
Send us their email and we'll add them on the back end. Then they Sign in, they don't sign up separately.
"My baselines aren't showing up."
They sync in on a daily, email-matched cycle, give it a day and confirm the email matches. It's timing, not lost data.
